High water should drain away quickly; White River to crest at 23 feet Thursday

Even though some areas of Knox County got as much as 10 inches of rain over the weekend, all that water should be all be gone down the river in short order.

Wabash River levee superintendent Hunter Pinnell said the city was in a good position to handle that much rain. Even with the melting of snow that occurred in the days prior to Saturday’s storms, the river was sitting at just over 3 feet, giving the water plenty of area to move around and out of the city.
