Edwardsport man suspected of child molesting arrested after foot pursuit

EDWARDSPORT — An armed man accused of child molesting and sexual battery led Knox County Sheriff's deputies on a foot pursuit Tuesday that ended with an arrest and no injuries to anyone involved.

Detectives Aaron Morris and Cameron Carr arrived at the residence of William E. Majewski on Tuesday to serve him with an arrest warrant for two felony counts of child molesting and one felony count of sexual battery. The warrants and charges were filed by the Knox County Prosecutor's Office based on evidence obtained by Morris.

According to Sheriff Mike Morris, as deputies approached the residence they saw a man run through the house and exit out the back. The man, identified as Majewski, was armed with a handgun.

Deputies initiated a foot pursuit with Majewski, who eventually stopped and pointed the weapon at his own forehead. Detective Morris was able to initiate a conversation with the suspect while Carr maintained the crime scene, and Morris eventually convinced Majewski to drop the weapon.

Majewski surrendered and was taken into custody without further incident. No shots were fired at any point by the suspect or by the deputies.

“They reacted with professionalism and were able to turn a very bad situation into a successful apprehension,” Sheriff Morris said. “Everyone is innocent until proven guilty, but when you have an armed suspect, whether he's pointing the weapon at himself or at you, you still have to be professional and exercise all your options.”

Majewski was being held at the Knox County Jail on a $75,000 bond.
