Sureldah Brittain

BICKNELL — Sureldah “Sally” Brittain, Bicknell, 88, passed away Sunday, Feb. 9, 2014, at Good Samaritan Hospital.

Sally was born Nov. 8, 1925, in Vincennes, the daughter of Roy A. and Jennie (Williams) Bond. She married Lee Brittain on April 4, 1959, and he preceded her in death in 1978.

She was a Bruceville High School graduate. Sally was a cook for North Knox Central, a certified nursing assistant for Moore Nursing Home and worked for Gossard’s on the assembly line. She was a member of the Bicknell First Baptist Church. She also did a lot of volunteer work and had been the Bicknell "Woman of the Year." Sally wrote several poems over the years for family and friends.

Sally is survived by her sons, Dennis York and his wife, Paula, of Woodstock, Ga., Terry York of Carlisle, and Shawn York and his wife, Bobette, of Edwardsport; a step-daughter, Nancy Brown and her husband, Bruce, of Midland, Mich.; 15 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.

Along with her late husband, Sally was preceded in death by her parents, seven brothers, three sisters, and one son, Steven York.

Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Bicknell Memorial Cemetery, with the Rev. Seth Alexander officiating and burial following. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Bicknell First Baptist Church.

Arrangements were handled by Fredrick and Son McClure-Utt Funeral Home, Bicknell Chapel.

Matilda P. Cullison

SANDBORN — Matilda Pearl (Metcalf) Cullison, 85, Sandborn, passed away at 4:50 a.m. Friday, Feb. 7, 2014, at Glenburn Home in Linton.

Born May 9, 1928, in Sandborn, she was the daughter of Roy and Edna (Lambert) Metcalf.

She was a homemaker.

Surviving relatives include her children, Robert E. Cullison Jr., of Odon, Carol Ann McKay of Tulsa, Okla., and John R. Cullison of Lyons; nine grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert E. Cullison Sr., on July 31, 1994; a brother, Oscar Metcalf; one infant brother; and one grandson, Robby Cullison.

Graveside services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday at the Sandborn Cemetery, with the Rev. Bill Pieper officiating. Public visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. Thursday at Jenkins & Sons Funeral Home in Lyons.

Harry T. McKee

LAWRENCEVILLE, Ill. — Harry Thomas “Tom” McKee, 63, Willow Hill, formerly of Lawrenceville, passed away on Saturday, Feb. 8, 2014, at his residence.

Arrangements are pending at Emmons-Macey & Steffey Funeral Home in Lawrenceville.

LAWRENCEVILLE, Ill. — Joan Sue Stephenson, 84, Lawrenceville, died Saturday, Feb. 8, 2014.

She retired from the laundry department at Lawrence County Memorial Hospital.

She is survived by a sister, Bonnie Jean Puntney.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. CST Wednesday at the Cunningham-Young Funeral Home in Lawrenceville. A private burial will be in the Lawrenceville City Cemetery. Visitation will be from 10-11 a.m. CST Wednesday at the funeral home. Memorial contributions can be made to the Lawrence County Senior Citizens.
