As a former player, coach, and lifelong supporter of Lincoln High school, I was shocked when the VCSC board voted to not renew the contract of Jon Heiden.
How could three board members say "No" to Coach Heiden and his commitment to Lincoln High School? They said "No" to a principal and an AD on their recommendation to renew Coach Heiden's contract. Do these three board members not think that the principal and AD can do their jobs? Isn't it the principal’s and AD’s job to evaluate and determine if one of their employees is doing a satisfactory job?
Those three board members also said "No" to the supporters who showed up at Monday's meeting to speak in favor of Coach Heiden. Do the people not have a voice in this school corporation? Players, coaches, parents, and fans all showed up to speak in support of Coach Heiden, but were never given the chance.
Sadly, those same three board m embers said "No" to a person that is a loyal and proud alumnus of Vincennes Lincoln High School. He could've had coaching jobs in other places, but he wanted to be in Vincennes and teach and coach in a place that he knew and cared about deeply. I am truly ashamed of those three board members, who put their personal agendas ahead of the betterment of a school corporation.
