THE ONE TIME THAT MEDICARE MAY CALL

The Medicare Current Beneficiary Surveys (MCBS) will be starting soon. CMS (Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services) contracts with NORC at the University of Chicago to conduct the surveys. This is the ONE time Medicare DOES contact beneficiaries by phone. Medicare beneficiaries should initially receive a letter, which will be followed up by a phone call (which is a different process than before). Due to the pandemic, there will be no in-person interviews, but rather a telephone interview. Here are the instructions that the beneficiary can follow to confirm participation: If you have been contacted to participate in the Medicare Current Beneficiary Survey (MCBS) and would like to verify your selection in this study, please contact NORC toll free at 1-877-389-3429. If an interviewer has contacted you and you would like to verify them, please visit our respondent care website at NORC Respondent Care Center,call 1 (866) 856 — 6672 (NORC), or email surveyhelp@norc.org. This survey is authorized by section 1875 (42 USC 139511) of the Social Security Act and is conducted by NORC for the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. Every year, Medicare’s open enrollment period is Oct. 15-Dec. 7.

What’s the Medicare Open Enrollment Period?

Medicare health and drug plans can make changes each year — things like cost, coverage, and what providers and pharmacies are in their networks. Oct. 15 to Dec. 7 is when all people with Medicare can change their Medicare health plans and prescription drug coverage for the following year to better meet their needs.

How do people know if they need to change plans?

People in a Medicare health or prescription drug plan should always review the materials their plans send them, like the “Evidence of Coverage” (EOC) and “Annual Notice of Change” (ANOC). If their plans are changing, they should make sure their plans will still meet their needs for the following year. If they’re satisfied that their current plans will meet their needs for next year and it’s still being offered, they don’t need to do anything.

When can people get information about next year’s Medicare plans?

Information for next year’s plans will be available beginning in October.

Where can people find Medicare plan information or compare plans?

1-800-MEDICARE or Medicare.gov.

Generations is now taking appointments for SHIP (State Health Insurance Plan) counseling to assist you in choosing your best option for your Medicare prescription drug plan. The best plan for you could change from year to year depending on your health, medications, etc. Do not assume that the plan that you have always had is the best for you. Let us help you take a look at all of your options, and then you decide which plan that you want to go with. IT IS TIME AGAIN FOR BUILD-A-BASKET

This holiday season, Generations is sponsoring its 12th annual Build-A-Basket project to help provide for the basic needs of Generations’ clients while bringing them some holiday cheer. Generations serves older adults in Daviess, Dubois, Greene, Knox, Martin and Pike counties. These individuals are on fixed incomes and often cannot afford the everyday necessities that many of us take for granted. This project is open to schools, churches, businesses and individuals. Just purchase a laundry basket or tote and fill it with items such as dish soap, deodorant, toothpaste, etc. Many individuals also decorate their baskets to make them more festive. A list of suggested basket items, as well as list of drop-off sites is available on the Generations’ Web site at www.generationsnetwork.org and on the Generations’ Facebook page. You may register your basket online by following the link on the Web site or Facebook post. Baskets must be completed and dropped off no later than Dec. 11. Generations’ staff and volunteers will deliver the gift baskets.
