Oliver by Steve Carino

I happened upon a book as I was working at the library that got my eye. On the cover of the book was a gorgeous picture of a Yorkie with a smile that made my heart melt. I checked out the book, and once I started reading, I could not put it down. The author, Steven J. Carino, has a way of making you feel every emotion he has for the dog. It becomes a part of your heart. This true story is about the author’s search to find his missing dog, Oliver. Someone takes the dog from Carino’s vehicle, and he starts the long search to find him. The author goes back in time explaining how he became so attached to Oliver. His story is very touching, and I will admit I did shed some tears. The many people involved in this search for Oliver is just amazing. The author learns that he has become involved with people that will be in his life from then on. He cannot believe how people joined him in his search. It is a story about kindness, friendship, and the power of faith. The power of community can be life changing. No one is ever truly alone. If you are a pet lover, this book will be an inspiration to you.

I suppose I was attracted to this book because my daughter has a Yorkie. I am convinced that God put dogs here to comfort us. I have had both dogs and cats. They were truly blessings to my husband and me. They greet you every day, no matter what kind of day they had, and they never complain. The Bible verse below was used as a guide to help locate Oliver.

“Let love and faithfulness never leave you; bind them around your neck, write them on the tablet of your heart.” Proverbs 3

This book is available at the Knox County Library in the nonfiction section. It’s also available on CD.
