Hal D and Freddie Fay Burke of Monroe City will celebrate their 70th wedding anniversary on June 25, 2020.
Freddie Fay, daughter of the late Elmer and Nora Downey, and Hal D, son of the late John and Leola Burke, were married in the Monroe City United Methodist Church in 1950.
Freddie Fay retired in 1990 from the South Knox School Corp. after teaching music for 36 years at Fritchton High School, Monroe City High School, Decker Elementary, and South Knox Elementary Schools.
Hal D worked at the Julian Coal Mine, owned Hal's Hardware in Monroe City until 1969, managed Central and Center Hardware in Vincennes and retired from Eby-Brown Co. in Indianapolis. After retiring, he then worked for Goodwin Family Funeral Home in Vincennes for 17 years.
The Burkes are the parents of Rebecca Miller and her husband, John, of Monroe City, and Hal D Burke II and his wife, Wendy of Dubai UAE and Fort Lauderdale, Florida.
Their grandchildren are Alex Miller and his wife, Jana, of St. Charles, Illinois, and Seth Miller and his wife, Tessa, of Indianapolis and Hal D adn Freddie Fay are the proud great-grandparents to Ella, Magnolia, Easton, Alana, and Eli Miller.
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, a drive-by celebration will be scheduled in July.
