The theme “All Together Now” captures how we come together as a community.
That’s the theme for the 2023 annual summer reading program at the Knox County Public Library.
The diversity within, the kindness and friendliness we show to others, is an integral part of that. We like to say that the library puts the unity in the community. Let us not forget READING. Our line-up of programs this summer is sure to spark an interest for children of all ages as well as adults.
They are the following:
Summer Reading is for all ages, children, tweens, teens, and adults. Many fun events are happening in the youth department this summer. At the Summer Reading kick-off on May 20, besides food, music, and books, we’ll introduce you to the reading incentive app, Beanstack.
This app will help track the minutes you spend reading and the titles you’ve read.
This year you can sign up on the computer from home or through the “Beanstack” application.
You can go to kcpl.beanstack.com and register as a single person or as a family. Adults may also register separately.
Every hour you read, you record, and the computer will keep track of it.
Your rewards are registered by the program. When you reach your reward level the computer will let you know.
Then, it’s up to you to come to the library and claim your reward.
We’ll have a variety of fun prize baskets for adults.
Completion goals include 12 hours for children, 24 hours for teens and 36 hours for adults.
The three programs that will continue during the summer months are:
Mother Goose on the Loose (MGOTL) at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesdays. MGOTL incorporates singing, bells, and puppets. Babies and toddlers really enjoy it.
Story time, for pre-schoolers, at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesdays consists of book reading and a craft, as well as playing with some toys, performing puppet shows, and choosing out books to read.
STEAM meets at 10:30 a.m. on Thursdays and is a program that incorporates Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Math.
We read, have a hands-on craft and enjoy a snack.
These activities allow children and parents to choose books to take home or read at the library.
On the days of the special programs listed above, there will be no Story Time or STEAM programs.
Story walk is an adventure in the library’s front yard with flowers, greenery, ambiance, and an outdoor reading area for children as well as other patrons.
As school is ending, all of us at the library hope that you will come and seek out new worlds and adventures of animals, romance, fiction, non-fiction, graphic novels, self help, and many more books that are waiting to be read.
We are all willing to help and assist you any way we can.
Hope to see you often this summer at our beautiful library!
Changes to the SunCommercial's back end processing means the e-edition is getting a facelift. The biggest change is the e-edition, by default, is now presented in Text view.
