Local Democratic Party to host informational session

The Knox County Democratic Party will host an educational and informational event for potential political candidates for city/town, township, county or state House/Senate offices in the upcoming 2022 and 2023 elections.

The session will be held at 6 p.m. on Dec. 2 in the Vincennes Fortnightly Clubhouse, 421 N. Sixth St.

Potential candidates should RSVP by emailing name, address and telephone number to kcindems@gmail.com or register on the “You Should Run” Knox County Indiana Democratic Party event page on Facebook.

County pauses paving efforts

Due to the arrival of very cold weather, highway superintendent Benji Boyd said ongoing paving will stop and resume on Wednesday.

The following roads are currently being resurfaced: Old U.S. 41 South from Brookhaven Road to U.S. 41, Newell Road from Old Bruceville Road to Old Wheatland Road, Old Wheatland Road from Indiana 550 to the Vincennes city limit, Old U.S. 41 North from U.S. 41 to the Sullivan County line, and Memering Road from Indiana 67 to Mine Road.

Paving will resume on Wednesday on Old Wheatland and Memering roads, Boyd said. Crews will then pause for Thanksgiving and resume on Monday.

Natural Gardeners Club to meet on Dec. 8

The next gathering of the Natural Gardeners Club will be on Dec. 8 at the Fortnightly Clubhouse, 421 N. Sixth St.

The group will have a carry in and fellowship at 6 p.m. with the meeting to begin at 7 p.m.

They will be showing the film “Fantastic Fungi.”

Masks are encouraged, and those feeling unwell are asked not to attend.

The Natural Gardeners Club is an area network of people interested in organic gardening and sustainable living. There are no dues or officers, and all are welcome.

Gatherings are on the second Wednesday of each month.

City street to be closed

Crews with Kerns Excavating, Bicknell, have closed St. Clair Street in Vincennes between 6th Street and Washington Avenue to install a sewer tap for the new Burger King.

St. Clair will be open to local traffic from Washington Avenue only.

City offices to be closed

All Vincennes City government offices will be closed Thursday and Friday for Thanksgiving.

Wednesday and Thursday’s trash will both be collected together on Wednesday.

The City Collection Site on Old Terre Haute Road will be closed Thursday through Sunday.

CASA to host ‘Make it Merry’ campaign

Knox County CASA (Court-Appointed Special Advocates) is teaming up with Uebelhor & Sons Buick GMC Cadillac in Vincennes to support abused and neglected children in the court system.

Representatives from CASA are asking locals to visit Uebelhor at U.S. 41 and Hart Street and choose a child’s wish list from the Giving Tree.

Presents are to be returned to Uebelhor by Dec. 9.
