Trash pickup canceled this week
Mayor Joe Yochum has announced that,
due to the winter storm Monday and another expected later in the week, there will be no trash or recycling pickup at all this week. City crews will instead focus on snow removal. Motorists are also asked not to park on the city’s snow routes, which include most of the main thoroughfares.
Trash pickup will resume next week on its normal schedule. If you have questions, contact City Hall at 812-882-7285.
Good Samaritan closing facilities due to winter storm
Officials with Good Samaritan closed a number of facilities early on Monday due to the winter storm. Closures today include its Wound Center and the Samaritan Center. Patients are being asked to call and reschedule their appointments.
Other closures are possible today, so it’s best to call ahead to confirm appointments.
Knox County Health Department closes COVID-19 vaccine clinic
Due to the winter storm, the health department’s COVID-19 vaccine clinic was closed both Monday and today. Those with appointments are encouraged to visit the clinic on Wednesday or reschedule for another time.
Local theater troupe to host auditions
Members of the Old Town Players, 432 Broadway St., will host auditions for their next show, “May the Farce Be With You,” this weekend.
Auditions will be held on Feb. 22 and 23; performances are scheduled for the weekends of April 16-18 and April 23-25.

Good Samaritan seeking volunteers
Good Samaritan is seeking current and former patients to participate on their Patient and Family Engagement Council (PFEC).
The PFEC will feature 10-12 patients who meet on a monthly basis to provide feedback and creative solutions for program development or improvements within Good Samaritan. PFEC members will need to commit to a minimum of a one-year term.
Those who are interested in applying for a membership to the Patient & Family Engagement Council can complete an online application by visiting gshvin.org/pfec. Applications will be reviewed and those selected for the council will be contacted for an interview.
Purdue Extension to host grain marketing workshop
The Purdue Extension will host the virtual Southwest Indiana Grain Marketing Workshop from 10 a.m. to noon on Feb. 19. This event is free, but advance registration is needed for the Zoom link. Instructions can be found online at https://tinyurl.com/amn6qlbn.
The workshop will focus on grain marketing updates from regional businesses, including grain marketers from CMS Grain, Superior Ag, ADM, Consolidated Grain and Barge, Valero, and Green Plains Companies.
Featured marketers will provide updates on regional and world grain markets, and where they see grain trends moving in the next several months. Also featured during the event will be the “Code Red” record system for times of emergency, and farm stress management during trying times.
