Local man faces murder charge following 2019 shooting
A Vincennes man originally arrested in September of 2019 on a charge of voluntary manslaughter after shooting and killing another man is now facing a more serious charge of murder.
Knox County Prosecutor Dirk Carnahan on Monday refiled the charge against Jacob Samuel Lacoste, 24, as murder, arguing that he “knowingly” committed the crime.
Police arrested Lacoste more than a year ago for allegedly shooting and killing 23-year-old Drew Allen Roach, also of Vincennes, inside a trailer home on Thunderhill Drive.
Sheriff Doug Vantlin said his deputies responded to the home at 3465 Thunderhill Road, located just north of Vincennes, after a 911 call was placed slightly before 4:30 a.m. on Sept. 18, 2019.
They found Roach unresponsive on the floor. He was later pronounced dead.
Police at the time said the two men were friends and had reportedly been fixing up the trailer.
