The Knox County Commissioners on Tuesday finally approved a request from Sunrise Coal to close a portion of Johanningsmeier Road.

The request, which is to close about a mile of Johanningsmeier Road between Freelandville and Harting roads, has been on the commissioners’ agenda now for weeks. Last month, nearly ready to approve it, the commissioners hit pause yet again because Benji Boyd, county highway superintendent, wasn’t there to offer input on what Sunrise Coal was offering in the way of a bond to put the road back together when they’re finished.
