Alberta V. Cunningham

Alberta V. Cunningham, 95, of Vincennes, passed away at 2:24 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 7, 2019 at BridgePointe Health Campus.

She was born on Aug. 18, 1924 in Vincennes to Raymond Charles and Inez (Bennett) Cunningham.

Surviving are her children, Sam Cunningham of Vincennes, and Kay Halter and her husband, Dick, of Vincennes; her granddaughters, Samantha Cunningham of Vincennes, Dana Greenwood and her husband, Kevin, of Vincennes, and Kelly Yurkain and her husband, Joe, of Fort Wayne; a great-granddaughter, Hannah Greenwood of Vincennes; her step-great-grandsons, Patrick and Bradley Yurkanin of Fort Wayne; and a half-brother, Rick Cleghorn of Farmersburg.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Elmer Cunningham.

Graveside services will be 2:45 p.m. on Thursday at Memorial Park Cemetery with Georg Karl officiating. Visitation will be 1:30-2:30 p.m. at Goodwin Funeral Home, 524 Broadway St. Memorial contributions may be made to the choice of the donor.  Goodwin Funeral Home is honored to serve the family of Alberta Cunningham.

Cody Garrett

Cody Garrett, 88, of Vincennes, passed away on Sunday, Oct. 6, 2019.

He was born in Owensville on Feb. 18, 1931 to the late Albert and Kathryn (Robinson) Garrett. Cody graduated from Owensville High School in 1949. Shortly after he married the love of his life, or as he called her “his boss,” Helen (Smiley) Garrett in 1951. He worked as a service manager for McCormick Inc. for 30 years before retiring in 1999. Cody enjoyed gardening, camping, and traveling. Cody and Helen traveled to all 50 states and Canada. One of Cody’s favorite pastimes was affectionately teasing his loved ones, especially Helen. He will be remembered as a loving husband, father, and “Pa,” as he was known by his grandchildren.  

Cody is survived by his wife Helen Garrett; children Judy Sievers and her husband, Alan, Rick Garrett, Marty Garrett and his wife, Lisa, and Rob Garrett; siblings Dean Garrett and his wife, Kathie, Joyce Wilson, and Ray Garrett and his wife, Sharon; grandchildren Clay, Caitlin, Jordyn, Nathan, Alec, Jackson, and Madison; great-grandchildren Aurora, Collin, and Aubree; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. 

He is preceded in death by his parents; an infant son, James Garrett; and siblings Jerald Garrett and Louanna Johnson. 

A celebration of life will be 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. CDT on Oct. 15 at Holders Funeral Home in Owensville. A memorial service will be at 1 p.m. CDT with interment at Maumee Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to American Cancer Society or a charity of your choice. Holder’s Funeral Home is honored and privileged to be entrusted with the care of Mr. Garrett.
