Mary M. Chamness

Mary M. Chamness, 89, of Vincennes, passed away at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 28, 2020 at her residence.

She was born on Oct. 9, 1930 in Vincennes to Hubert and Lena Eaton. Mary enjoyed being a homemaker and was a member of The Church of God of Prophecy where she had been active helping the church in her younger days.

Surviving are her children, Mary Sue Betz and her husband, William, of Vincennes, and William Chamness and his wife, Rebecca, of Vincennes; a sister, Catherine Evans of Vincennes; along with seven grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

Mary was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, William N. Chamness, who preceded her on April 27, 1994; her daughters, Shirley Burns, Cindy Horvath, Charlotte Williams, and Debra Marie Chamness; and her brother, Hubert Eaton.

Graveside services will be 11 a.m. on Saturday at Memorial Park Cemetery with Perry Wells officiating. Gardner-Brockman is honored to serve the family of Mary M. Chamness.

Janice Marie Gastineau

Janice Marie Gastineau, 80, of Switz City, died at 3:09 a.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 28, 2020, at Greene County General Hospital.  

She was born in Bushrod on July 20, 1939, the daughter of Burl and Rowena (May) Carmichael. She was an art teacher, retiring from North Knox in 1995. She was a member of the Linton First United Methodist Church, the Eastern Star of Lyons and Linton.

Survivors include two daughters, Rhonda Reed and her husband, Tom, and Sarah Gastineau; a son, John Gastineau; three grandchildren, Steven Reed and his wife, Christen, Danae Horban and her husband, Brian, and Michelle Itczak and her husband, Adam; four great-grandchildren, Noah Reed, Abram Reed, Emerson Itczak, and Mason Itczak; a foster great-granddaughter; two brothers, Jerry Carmichael and his wife, Barbara, and Randy Carmichael and his wife, Becky; and her nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her first husband, Ronald Crohn, in 1957; her second husband, Robert Gastineau in 2013; a daughter, Teresa Marie Gastineau; and an infant sister, Delores Carmichael.

Visitation will be 10 a.m. until the time of an Eastern Star service at 2 p.m., to be followed by the funeral service, on Saturday at Welch & Cornett Funeral Home in Linton. Burial will be at Switz City Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the Rainbow Girls Teresa Marie Gastineau Memorial Fund.
