SUMNER, Illinois — Jewel A. Piper, age 88, of Sumner, passed away on Sunday, April 18, 2021, at Good Samaritan in Vincennes, Indiana.
She was born on Nov. 28, 1932, in Chicago, the daughter of Charles and Rose Allene (Heath) Wheeler.
She married the love of her life and soulmate, Jack C. Piper, on Feb. 24, 1952, and they were blessed with over 68 wonderful years together before he preceded her in death on Aug. 18, 2020.
Jewel was a beautician and also worked for nine years at Perrott’s Carpet and Design. She was a member of the Sumner United Methodist Church. She enjoyed gardening, interior design and shopping. She loved being with her family, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
Preceding her in death were her parents; husband; and one brother, Jerry A. Wheeler.
Survivors include one daughter, Judy Pauley and husband, Rick; two sisters-in-law, Janet Ulrich and Blanche Piper all of Sumner; three grandchildren, Jaclyn Peterson and husband, Matthew, Joanna Johnson and husband, Roger, and Matt Pauley and wife, Amelia; and eight great-grandchildren, Norah and Charlotte Peterson, Gavin Emmons, Jack, Emma, Abigail, and Ben Johnson, and Alanis McClure.
A funeral service celebrating the life of both Jack and Jewel will be conducted at 2 p.m. CDT on Thursday at the Sivert-Macey and Steffey Funeral Home in Sumner and can be viewed on the Emmons-Macey and Steffey Funeral Home Facebook page. Burial will be in the Crest Haven Memorial Park Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 1-2 p.m. CDT on Thursday at the funeral home.
