Mable L. Bedwell, 100, of Edwardsport, passed away Thursday evening, Nov. 19, 2020, at the Freelandville Community Home.

Mable was born Oct. 1, 1920, in Sandborn, the daughter of Frances and May Elkins Newkirk. She married Doyle Bedwell on Aug. 17, 1937, and they made their life together for over 58 years until his death in December of 1995.

Mable was a homemaker and a member of the Edwardsport First Baptist Church. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother and great-great grandmother. She enjoyed spending time with her family at any event they gathered.

Mable is survived by her children, Claude F. Bedwell and his wife, Dorothy, of Newburgh, Gary Bedwell of Edwardsport, and Karen Goodwin of Elizabethton, Tennessee. She is also survived by nine grandchildren, seven great grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Doyle Bedwell; a son, Jack Bedwell; a daughter in infancy, Margaret Ellen Bedwell; her brother, Ray Newkirk; and four sisters, Goldie Rose, Evelyn Arney, Nellie Jerrell and Bessie Newkirk.

Private services will be conducted due to the COVID-19 pandemic. She will be laid to rest next to her husband in the Sandborn Cemetery.

Memorial contributions can be made to the donor’s charity of choice.
