Except for four years serving in World War II, I’ve lived here for 97 years, and this is my first letter to the editor.

Your July 21st addition carries a front page account of Mr. Ed Gornall’s response to a face mask that said “Black Lives Matter” with “All Lives Matter.” Mr. Gornall’s remark caused the best mayor Vincennes has enjoyed in years as well as our city council to shake in their boots.

One of the best mentors of my nine children, our neighbor’s eight children and on up the street was a helper and friend, Walter Burns.

Walter was an African American. My family includes Mexican, Asian, African-American and white. All lives matter. Let’s include all.

What have I missed? I’m with Mr. Gornall all the way.

Kind regards,

R.R. Tresslar
