I would like to commend County Clerk David Shelton for making an effort to bring voting centers to Knox County. In this era of voter suppression, we need to make voting as easy and accessible as possible. This should also be a cost saving measure in the long run. Those 29 voting locations that we currently have require workers, and that is something that is getting harder and harder to come by. Using e-poll books would also make the process a much smoother operation.
For those who say, “that’s the way we’ve always done it” need only to be open-minded enough to see the benefits of what voting centers can bring. Give the voters of Knox County some credit for being open to this idea.
You might be surprised.
