To the Editor:

What has happened to the Republican Party?

The Republican Party officials are hoping the voters of Knox County will be distracted by the character assassination campaign they are running. I have personally known Tim Ellerman for 50 plus years. After hearing his account of his donation to the county, for work on Emerald Drive, I wold think the property owners on that street would stand up and support him. The road was dangerous and water was flooding into homes.

While the Republican Party officials are pointing fingers at Tim and making false accusations during their assassination campaign, they want everyone to forget about all the generous things Tim and his family have done for Knox County. Tim and his family boarded up the Hillcrest Building after it was destroyed by fire, all at no cost to the county because they had little insurance on the building. Tim repaired the courthouse steps on a weekend, I know for a fact. He also raised money to move the Ten Commandments and to purchase the historical stones around the Civil War Monument. Tim and his sons set the stones, donating their time.

It's time for this nonsense to stop. Tim is not running for anything. Judge someone on what they have voted on while in office and done for our community. Tim did not vote to waste money on the Pantheon Theatre, or to raise property taxes.

Tim Ellerman has helped to make this county a better place to live, and so will the candidate that I will be voting for.
