To those of the community who use McDowell Avenue to get to Walmart from Washington Avenue, you may remember that, on special occasions, we decorate the perimeter of our property by placing American flags along the road. This adds a recognition to the particular holiday and looks very patriotic.
This last weekend, Memorial Day, I was unable to place the flags out along our property due to a foot injury. Never fear, my good neighbors, Myron Noble and Rich Shoulders, stopped in to pick up and place the flags for me. Their action was such a fine gesture.
These guys have other things they could have been doing, but they took the time to help a retired U.S. Navy veteran.
This is a good example of what a little caring attention can do for a person and a community. The thoughtfulness is a missing link in today’s hyper-sensitive rhetoric coming from our political “sound bite” (leaders?).
This community is blessed with many good residents and supporters of old fashioned kindness to others. It is easy, in our daily lives, to overlook these selfless acts of sincere kindness. It also instills a sense of pride in us all.
I feel very fortunate to have these good friends as neighbors. May we all benefit from such support.
