To the Editor:

After a year of preparations, meetings, organizing, worrying and asking the community for their support by helping or donating, Rainbow Over the Bridge kicked off the second annual Pride Festival under a beautiful blue sky. Not a single threat of rain showed all evening, making this event the place to be.

But the miracle was not the weather, it was our community gathering together to celebrate LOVE in all its forms. I have to applaud that even the people who showed up to protest this event were welcomed and expressed their disagreement with respect, which I believe opens the space for a civilized discussion.

History will show this moment as a step closer to inclusion and acceptance in Vincennes. The proof is the hundreds of signatures placed on the commemorative canvas celebrating this event.

I am proud to show it here because those who were not afraid to be singled out can say one day that they were on the right side of history.
