Abby Niehaus and Tia Tolbert combined for seven goals, and Class A No. 4 Rivet rolled past North Posey, 11-0, in a girls soccer match at St. Vincent's Field on Wednesday.
Niehaus finished with four goals and two assists, while Tolbert scored three times. Maggie Earley and Caroline Herman each had a goal and an assist, Meredith Weiss and Katie Daugherty had goals, Kennedy Johnson two assists, and Katie McGuire one assist. Keeper Jayda Millspaugh had five saves in the clean sheet for the Patriots (4-1).
“This was a good team effort. We got up 6-0 at half, and Tia kind of put the icing on the cake with two goals in the first four minutes of the second half,” Rivet coach John Anderson said. “That allowed us to play all of our freshmen, and they're showing great signs of improvement. Layla Murawski made her first start tonight, and Kenzie Willis really helped the team coming off the bench. They're learning from our seniors.
“Jayda, another freshman, had another spectacular night in goal.”
The Patriots play in the Hoosier Cup in Bloomington this weekend. They open against Class 2A No. 13 South Dearborn at 8:20 p.m. Friday and take on Class 3A No. 17 Bloomington South at 12:40 p.m. Saturday and Richmond at 8 p.m. Saturday.
