DANVILLE, Ill. — Vincennes University struggled defensively Monday, and Danville Area's offense did more than enough to make the Trailblazers pay for it, as the honorable mention Jaguars notched a Mid-West Athletic Conference doubleheader sweep.

VU (13-10, 3-5 M-WAC) was blanked 8-0 in the first game and dropped a 12-4 decision in game two.

The Blazers had little offense and poor defense in the opener. The only hits were by Macaine Claycomb and Connor VanLannen, both singles. Danville (11-2, 7-1) scored one in the first, three runs in the third and fifth innings, and one in the sixth.

Sam Steimel took the loss, giving up seven runs in 4 2/3 innings, but only three were earned. He allowed nine hits and two walks with five strikeouts. Cody Swimm pitched the final 1 1/3 innings, giving up an earned run on a hit and a walk.

VU supplied more offense in the nightcap but still failed to keep up. The game was tied 1-1 after one and 2-2 after four innings, but the Jaguars put up three runs in the fifth and four in the sixth to put it out of reach.

Claycomb, Peyton Lane, and Trent Weiss were all 2-for-4 with an RBI, including doubles by Claycomb and Lane. Devon Rodgers doubled with an RBI, Ryne Wheeler doubled, and Ryan Bartley singled. Braedon Wheeler was the losing pitcher, allowing five runs, three earned, on seven hits and a walk with five strikeouts. Three others pitched for the Blazers and all gave up at least a run.

VU hosts No. 19 Lincoln Land for an M-WAC doubleheader 2 p.m. Thursday and complete the league series at 2 p.m. Saturday in Springfield, Ill.
