TULLAHOMA, Tenn. — Ryan Robison helped supply the offense for Vincennes University, but the pitching was lacking as the Trailblazers’ baseball team settled for a 1-2 start in its season-opening three-game series at Motlow State over the weekend.

VU cruised in the opener Saturday, 14-2, in five innings before suffering a 10-0 loss in the second game, also in five innings. The rubber match Sunday went back-and-forth, but the Bucks scored three in the eighth to grab a 13-12 victory in a nine-inning game.

Robison had two homers in the series, the second coming on a seventh-inning grand slam to give VU (1-2) a 12-10 edge in Sunday’s game. The Blazers shut down Motlow State (5-4) in the bottom of the seventh before the Bucks took the lead for good in the eighth.

Robison added a single to go with his grand slam, and he also pitched the first four innings, giving up just one earned run on two hits and four walks with three strikeouts.

Luke Stock was the losing pitcher, surrendering three runs, two earned, on a hit and three walks. VU’s pitchers combined to walk 14 in the loss.

Sean Becker had three hits with two runs and two RBIs; Isaac Lane two hits, one RBI; Max Flock two hits; Macaine Claycomb doubled with an RBI; Trent Weiss singled; and Devon Rodgers and Ian Martin each had two runs and one RBI.

Robison smacked a three-run home run in the third inning to highlight VU’s season opener on Saturday. The sophomore finished 3-for-3 with five RBIs and two runs.

Nate Toone threw a complete game, not giving up any runs over his final four innings after yielding two in the first. He struck out four and walked two with four hits.

Claycomb added two hits and one RBI; Trent Weiss one hit, three runs, two RBIs; Isaac Lane singled with two runs and an RBI; Sean Becker single, two runs; and Devon Rogers had a hit.

Motlow State returned the favor in game two Saturday, limiting the Trailblazers to one hit while picking up its own 10-run rule victory. Lane singled for VU’s only hit, while Kacey Cheek took the pitching loss, giving up five earned runs on five hits and a walk with three strikeouts in three innings. Blade Pittman, Luke Stock, Cody Swimm and Jaxon Bailey also pitched.
