Four leagues set semis

Babe Ruth League title game today

The semifinals are set in four leagues, and one league crowns a champion today as the tournaments in the Vincennes Cub League neared their conclusion Thursday.

Semifinals in the Senior, Junior, Senior Rookie, Junior Rookie leagues were originally slated to be played Thursday with an off day today in preparation for Championship Saturday. However, thunderstorms Wednesday pushed most of the schedule back with several games suspended.

In the Babe Ruth League, No. 1 VFW concluded a 10-4 victory over No. 5 Moose Lodge to advance to the championship game at 6 p.m. today on Veterans Field. VFW takes on Thursday's late winner between No. 2 40 et 8 or No. 3 Peters Mechanical Systems.

No. 7 Duke Energy finished off a 6-0 upset of No. 2 Best One Tire and faces another upset winner, No. 6 Bill Bobe's Pizzeria, in an 8 p.m. semifinal today. Bobe's blew open a tight game with six runs in the final inning for a 11-2 victory over No. 3 Qualkenbush Lawncare on Thursday. The first semifinal today pits No. 1 Elks against No. 4 Marriott at 6 p.m.

In a suspended game in the Junior League, No. 2 Kiwanis notched the final three outs to put away No. 7 Ponderosa, 9-4. The second game Thursday featured No. 3 Piper Diamond Co. against No. 6 Harmony, but that score was not reported before deadline. Thursday's winners square off at 8 p.m. today, following the 6 p.m. semifinal between No. 1 Good Samaritan Hospital and No. 4 Carson Wealth.

No. 3 First Vincennes Savings Bank dropped No. 11 Tri-State Printing, 16-1, to move on in the Senior Rookie tournament. In today's semifinals, No. 1 Rotary battles No. 5 Hart Bell at 6 p.m., and FVSB takes on No. 7 Homes Plumbing at 8 p.m.

No. 2 German American Bank Investments denied No. 7 Gatorade with a seventh-inning run for a 9-8 victory to complete a game from Wednesday, while No. 3 Pepsi clubbed No. 6 Vincennes University, 18-3. No. 1 Wabash Food Service tries to remain unbeaten against No. 5 Intren at 6 p.m. today, and GABI plays Pepsi at 8 p.m.

On Saturday, the Junior Rookie League championship game is at 10 a.m., followed by the Senior Rookie title game at noon, the Junior League at 2 p.m., and the Senior League at 4 p.m. All games Saturday are at Joe Bilskie Sr. Field.
