Lincoln earned honorable mention recognition this week as the Indiana Football Coaches Association revealed its preseason polls for all six classes.

The Alices are tied with Greencastle for the fifth honorable mention spot in Class 3A with six voter points. Evansville Bosse, Lincoln's season-opening opponent, is second among 3A honorable mentions with nine points. North Knox didn't receive any votes in the 2A poll.

Three reigning state champions reclaimed their No. 1 rankings, New Palestine, 5A; West Lafayette, 3A; and Western Boone, 2A; while Class A champion Pioneer and Class 4A champion Fort Wayne Dwenger move up due to the IHSAA success factor. The other No. 1 teams are Carmel, 6A; Marion, 5A; and Indianapolis Lutheran, A.

Other teams from southwestern Indiana appearing in the polls are No. 7 Bloomington South, No. 10 Castle and honorable mention Terre Haute North in Class 5A; No. 2 Evansville Central, No. 10 Evansville Reitz and honorable mentions Evansville Memorial, Northview and Boonville in Class 4A; No. 4 Gibson Southern and No. 5 Heritage Hills in Class 3A; No. 7 Evansville Mater Dei and honorable mentions Linton and Paoli in Class 2A; and honorable mention North Central in Class A.

The Alices start the season with games at Bosse and at home against Boonville, but don't have another ranked foe on the slate. Nobody else in Lincoln's sectional is ranked, but No. 10 Indianapolis Ritter and honorable mentions Greencastle and Danville are potential regional opponents. North Knox travels to Boonville before hosting North Central, Lincoln and Linton over a four-week midseason stretch against ranked teams. Linton and Mater Dei are in the Warriors' sectional, and Paoli feeds into the regional.

The Associated Press poll is expected to be released next Tuesday.

Lincoln and North Knox play scrimmages Friday. The Alices host Evansville Harrison at 7:30 p.m., while the Warriors visit Owen Valley at 7 p.m. North Knox was originally slated to host its scrimmage, but the game was moved due to ongoing contsruction at the Warriors' field.
