Suspended games resume today
Semifinals were slated to be set in all league tournaments at the Vincennes Cub League on Wednesday, but Mother Nature had other plans.
Only one game was completed, as lightning halted play of the other four early games in the final innings, and play was suspended until today.
All semifinal games originally slated for today have been postponed until Friday, so Wednesday's suspended games and late games can be completed. Suspended games begin at 6 p.m. today with Wednesday's scheduled 8 p.m. games to start shortly after the completion of the first games.
The Babe Ruth League was supposed to have a day off today anyway, with the championship at 6 p.m. Friday, so not much changes. No. 1 VFW held a 10-4 lead over No. 5 Moose Lodge in the seventh inning Wednesday. Second-seeded 40 et 8 plays the second game today against No. 3 Peters Mechanical Systems.
No. 7 Duke Energy was on the verge of an upset in the Senior League when the delay came Wednesday, holding a 6-0 lead over No. 2 Best One Tire in the sixth inning. No. 3 Qualkenbush Lawncare plays the second game today against No. 6 Bobe's Pizzeria. In semifinals Friday, No. 1 Elks takes on No. 4 Marriott at 6 p.m., and today's winners play at 8 p.m. Marriott outlasted Ray's Fire and Safety, 9-8, late Tuesday.
In the Junior League, No. 2 Kiwanis was three outs away from a 9-4 victory against No. 7 Ponderosa when play was suspended. No. 3 Piper Diamond Co. and No. 6 Harmony follow the completion of that game today, and those winners play at 8 p.m. Friday. In the first semifinal at 6 p.m. Friday, No. 1 Good Samaritan Hospital battles No. 4 Carson Wealth, which upended No. 5 Sure Clean, 9-6, late Tuesday.
The only winner on Wednesday came from the Senior Rookie League, where No. 7 Homes Plumbing upset No. 2 F.O.P., 10-2. No. 3 First Vincennes Savings Bank faces No. 11 Tri-State Printing at 6 p.m. today, and that winner takes on Homes Plumbing in an 8 p.m. semifinal Friday. The 6 p.m. game Friday pits No. 1 Rotary against No. 5 Hart Bell, which out-slugged Farbest Foods, 13-9, late Tuesday.
No. 7 Gatorade gave No. 2 German American Bank Investments all it could handle Wednesday, as the game was tied, 8-8, in the seventh inning at the time of the delay. That winner gets the winner between No. 3 Pepsi and No. 6 Vincennes University at 8 p.m. Friday. No. 1 Wabash Food Service battles No. 5 Intren at 6 p.m. Friday. Intren nipped PCA, 11-9, on Tuesday.
Barring any more weather delays or suspensions, Championship Saturday is still on as scheduled, with all games being played at Joe Bilskie Sr. Field.
