Singles formula works for tennis Alices

Lincoln's Ashlyn Hillenbrand hits a forehand shot as she approaches the net during her No. 3 singles match against Princeton Thursday at the Alices' courts.

Lincoln's girls tennis team rolled in singles on its way to 3-2 victory over visiting Princeton on Thursday.

The three singles spots yielded just four games for the Alices (4-6). No. 1 Payton Dugan blanked Savannah Gimbrel, 6-0, 6-0; No. 2 Savanna Purdom bounced Haley Davis, 6-0, 6-1; and No. 3 Ashlyn Hillenbrand took out Juliet Wilhite, 6-3, 6-0. In doubles, Princeton's No. 1 Kelsey Ellis-Elizabeth James defeated Abby West-Macey Fisher, 6-1, 6-4; and No. 2 Mya Lambert-Albree Wallace held off Dalayla Anderson-Mallory Friend, 6-4, 6-4.

"It was a great match all around," Lincoln coach Bryce Crane said. "The doubles teams played really well, especially in the second set. They continue to improve every night. Payton, Savanna and Ashlyn were in charge from the first serve and have done an excellent job for us all season."

The Alices lost both junior varsity matches.

Lincoln plays at Evansville Bosse at 10 a.m. today, taking on Evansville Reitz and the host Bulldogs.
