Trevon Taylor scored 27 points, but it was Charlie Niehaus' five points in overtime that proved vital in Rivet's 55-53 come-from-behind Blue Chip Conference boys basketball win over Wood Memorial on Thursday at Holscher Gym.

Austin Finch scored seven of his 14 points in the fourth quarter, allowing the Patriots (4-11, 2-3 Blue Chip) to come back from a double-digit deficit to force the extra period. Griffin Parke had 17 points to pace the Trojans (4-13, 2-4), Owen Day 12 and Kayne McCandless 10.

Day opened the overtime with a basket to give Wood Memorial a 48-46 lead, but that was its last lead. Taylor countered with the tying basket and Niehaus gave Rivet the lead for good with a 3-pointer. Finch and Niehaus netted free throws to extend the edge to 53-48 with less than a minute to go.

The Patriots were just 3-of-13 from the free-throw line in the extra period, but Niehaus and Taylor each hit 1-of-2 in the last minute that proved to be enough. Wood Memorial missed a half-court shot at the buzzer.

The game was close in the opening half, with the Trojans holding 15-11 and 24-21 leads at the first two quarter stops. Wood Memorial pulled away in the third stanza. McCandless had seven in the quarter and the Trojans' lead grew to 41-32. But Rivet held the visitors to five points in the fourth quarter, catching up at 46-all when Finch hit both ends of the one-and-bonus with 29 seconds showing.

The Patriots forced a travel and had a chance to win in regulation, but Finch's well-guarded attempt missed.

Rivet's junior varsity (3-11) lost, 47-30. Peyton Catt led with 11 points.

The Patriots play at Bloomington Lighthouse at 6 p.m. Monday.
