FORT BRANCH — South Gibson tallied in the 10th inning to nip Vincennes, 7-6, in the championship game of the Cal Ripken 10-year-old Southern State tournament on Monday.

The Vincennes 10s finished 3-1 in the tournament, but the runner-up finish still qualifies them for the Ohio Valley Regional. Since South Gibson won the Ohio Valley as 9-year olds last season, they automatically qualify for this year's regional, making Vincennes the Southern State representative.

The local 10s cruised through pool play, popping South Gibson Gold, 15-1, and smashing Posey County, 24-0, in three innings. In the knockout round Sunday, the Vincennes 10s eliminated the Vincennes Green Machine, 6-1, in the semifinals to earn a spot in Monday's title game.

Cooper Collins led the offense for the Vincennes 10s, clubbing three triples, three singles, and two doubles with 10 runs and eight RBIs. Jayden Thacker added seven hits, seven RBIs, five runs; Colton Wonning four singles, two doubles, six runs, four RBIs; Knox Gray five hits, five runs, three RBIs; Justice Jackson four singles, one triple, five runs, three RBIs; Carson Sanders three doubles, one single, six runs, two RBIs; Levi Pahmeier two singles, one double, seven runs, two RBIs; Isaac Vennard double, single, three RBIs, two runs; Colton York double, single, three RBIs, one run; Kolten Land two hits, two runs, two RBIs; and Landen Wyant two hits, three runs.

Pahmeier paced the pitching for Vincennes, striking out nine in nine innings while allowing just one run and earning two victories. Gray got the other win, tossing 6 1/3 innings and giving up five runs, two earned, with five strikeouts; Collins four innings, seven strikeouts, one run allowed; and Thacker 2 2/3 innings, two strikeouts and one run.

The Vincennes 10s are off this weekend and compete in the Ohio Valley Regional in Newburgh on July 18-21.
