JASONVILLE — The Vincennes Cub League 12-year-old All-Stars went 4-0 to take the championship this weekend at the Shakamak Invitational.

The local 12s dropped the hosts, 21-1, and defeated Linton, 9-4, in pool games to earn the top seed. In the knockout round, Vincennes topped Paris, Ill., 11-0, and blanked Linton in the championship, 10-0.

Offensively in the tournament, Tanner Gilbert had seven hits, Phoenix McCrary six, Raden Benson and Boston Gray four, Cayden McCrary three, Joel Sanders, Landon Sanders, Maddox Pargin and Jayden Ray two hits, and Matthew Pearison, Mavrick Benjamin and Justin Siewers one.

Landon Sanders pitched five innings with 10 strikeouts; Cayden McCrary three innings, three strikeouts; Gilbert two innings, five strikeouts; Ray two innings, one strikeout; Benjamin one inning, two strikeouts; Joel Sanders, Benson and Pargin, one inning, one strikeout; and Phoenix McCrary threw an inning.

The Cub League hosts the 12-year old Southern Indiana State Tournament this weekend at Joe Bilskie Sr. Field. Vincennes plays pool games Saturday against South Harrison at 11 a.m. and Newburgh at 5 p.m. Elimination games begin at noon Sunday.

Vincennes 7s unbeaten at Forest Park tourney

FERDINAND — After easing through its first three games, the Vincennes Cub League 7-year-old All-Stars outlasted Ireland, 9-7, to claim the championship in the Forest Park Ranger Rumble over the weekend.

Vincennes got to the title game with a trio of shutouts, defeating Forest Park, 11-0; Northeast Dubois, 18-0; and Forest Park again, 11-0.

Tayte Walker topped the Vincennes 7s with five singles, two doubles, one triple, seven runs, seven RBIs; Austin Trabant five singles, three doubles, eight runs, three RBIs; Landon Bouchie six singles, one triple, five RBIs, four runs; Rylan Hunckler five singles, one double, five runs, three RBIs; Daveon Jennings five singles, one double, five runs, five RBIs; Easton Wilkerson five hits, four RBIs, three runs; Kamdyn Rehwald four hits, four runs, one RBI; Dakota Walk four hits, four runs; Cy Hendrixson two singles, one double, four runs, one RBI; William Holka three hits, three runs, two RBIs; Koen Lewis three hits, one RBI; and Kable Collins three hits, one RBI.

The Cub League hosts the 7-year-old Southern Indiana State Tournament this weekend. The Vincennes 7s begin pool play against South Gibson at 6 p.m. Friday on the Red Diamond.

Lyons to transfer to Mississippi Valley

Vincennes University forward Jordan Lyons recently signed to continue his basketball career at Mississippi Valley State.

Lyons transferred to VU last season from Southern Utah. The 6-7 forward averaged 5.3 points on 56 percent shooting and 4.4 rebounds for the Trailblazers, who won the NJCAA championship with a 34-2 record. The sophomore was one of five players to appear in all 36 games.

His new school, nicknamed the Delta Devils, went 6-26 a year ago and 4-14 in the Southwestern Athletic Conference. The team has a new coach, former 17-year NBA player Lindsey Hunter, who replaced Andre Payne.
